Blue Jays win 9th straight, beat Athletics 4
Matched up against the hottest team in baseball, one inning of bad defense turned into big trouble for the Oakland Athletics. Their true offense is somewhere in between those two extremes, of course, but they’ve had one of the more productive lineups in baseball all season, including two of the American League’s top six hitters in terms of OPS, in the resurgent Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez. We can’t really be under the radar any more because we made a statement with the trades and the way we played, but at the same time we’re in a good spot.

Oakland was off Monday after profitable the earlier three days, however the remaining didn’t appear to do a lot good.
A’s manager Bob Melvin was less than pleased with his team’s performance in the second inning.
All Canadians, at some level, can claim the Blue Jays as their team.
Toronto starting pitchers have held the opposition to three earned runs or fewer in 15 consecutive games. The home-and-road cap (and helmet, for that matter) arrangement lasted until midway in the 1993 season when the Jays completely dropped the white-panel cap and wore the all-blue version exclusively for all home and road games until their logo change after the 1996 season.
“I executed better pitches tonight”, Hutchison said. “He was pretty impressive today”.
But against the A’s, he found his groove, sailing through seven and leaving to a standing ovation after allowing an infield hit to open the eighth. Aaron Sanchez came on and surrendered an RBI single to Billy Burns but escaped by striking out Crisp looking and getting Josh Reddick on a comebacker.
Roberto Osuna pitched the ninth for his 11th save. Josh Donaldson leads Toronto with 130 hits and 83 RBI while Edwin Encarnacion and Kevin Pillar have combined for 103 RBI.
On Sunday, they snapped the streak in style: The Yankees have now gone 26 innings without scoring, stretching back to the second inning of Friday night’s game.
Second baseman Dee Gordon hit a triple to lead off the 10th inning and scored the winning run on first baseman Justin Bour’s single as the Miami Marlins beat the Boston Red Sox 5-4.
Oakland wasn’t in front for long.
“It was a good feeling”, he said.
The team announced this afternoon that they will be breaking out a white-panel cap again for just one game (at least, for now) this Sunday when they take on the New York Yankees.
The Jays’ vaunted offence was relatively quiet, save for a second-deck homer by Jose Bautista, his 27. The Toronto Blue Jays have won six straight home games.
Oakland right-hander Kendall Graveman (6-8) allowed four runs, two earned, and five hits in 4 2-3 innings. It’s unclear what the Yankees will do with Severino if (or when) Michael Pineda is ready to return from the disabled list, but he has the chance to make five or six starts.

Toronto Blue Jays home game tickets are now fetching absurd prices on the resale market thanks to a flurry of blockbuster trades and the team riding an eight-game winning streak. He is day to day. RHP R.A. Dickey (6-10, 3.93 ERA) will pitch for Toronto on Wednesday against A’s RHP Aaron Brooks (1-0, 2.41 ERA). Dickey has pitched well since the All-Star break, going 3-0 with a 0.99 ERA in five starts.
