Blue Jays’ winning streak snapped by Red Sox

The first hit Dickey gave up was a triple to Mookie Betts.

Dickey held the Red Sox hitless through five but Boston scored three in the sixth.

John Mayberry and Ernie Whitt may have stolen some of the attention fans would have paid to Price, who was acquired by the Jays at last year’s trade deadline and helped lead them to their first postseason since 1993. Swihart walked and then was able to get all the way to 3rd base by way of a wild pitch. He also hit a batter with the bases loaded.Jose Bautista also homered for the Blue Jays.

Toronto continued to make strong contact off of Price to begin the second. After Hernandez moved the runners over with a groundout, Boston’s Christian Vasquez delivered an RBI single up the middle, driving in Ramirez and Bradley and cutting the lead to one. Red Sox lefty David Price (7-1, 5.34 ERA) will start the finale of the three-game series today against Blue Jays righty R.A. Dickey (2-6, 4.60).

Josh Thole is 1-for-4 with 1 strikeout.

Donaldson opened the scoring with a solo shot in the first inning by blasting his 12th home run of the season over the right-centre field wall. Heading into the 6, the Jays were out to a 2-0 lead while Boston remained hitless.

Boston Red Sox’s Dustin Pedroia (15) hits an RBI double against the Toronto Blue Jays during 11th inning baseball action in Toronto on Sunday, May 29, 2016.

With Betts at third and the Toronto infield drawn in to try to prevent any more damage, Xander Bogaerts hit a grounder that Jays shortstop Darwin Barney could not handle cleanly. Although Dickey was at 100 pitches, including 30 in the inning, John Gibbons let Dickey face the risky Hanley Ramirez. This decision quickly backfired, as the Red Sox quickly tied the game up on a hit-by-pitch. Jackie Bradley Jr. lined to short and Barney flipped to Travis to double Ortiz off second. Farrell said Uehara was available Saturday, “but we opted to stay away from him with a quick turnaround” to a day game after a night game.

The Boston Red Sox closer’s mood was far from celebratory after he earned both a blown save and a loss as part of an overall bullpen meltdown in Boston’s 10-9 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. With two-hits already in the ball game, Carrera bounced a groundball off of home plate to begin the inning, which caromed high into the air to first baseman Travis Shaw.

– Ross got Carrera to ground out to retire the side in the eighth, then worked around a walk and a single in the ninth to force extras. Heath Hembree came into the game and finished off the inning.

After Joe Biagini threw a clean 8, Encarnacion, Smoak, and Travis were due up in the one-run game. But Justin Smoak singled on a line drive to center, and with Ezequiel Carrera pinch running for Smoak, Martin drove in his third run of the day on a double to tie the game. The Red Sox ace responded by breezing through the next three frames, one base hit in the second inning and another in the fourth. Betts hit a single to left to move Vazquez to second with two out. The 33-year old displayed absolutely no command, surrendering two walks and a wild pitch. He did get the first out, but it was only after Ryan Hanigan chased a pair of pitches that would have been ball four.
