Blues sign Tarasenko for eight years, $60 million | Sports – KY3.com

(USATSI) The top priority for the St. Louis Blues this offseason was to make sure they signed restricted free agent Vladimir Tarasenko to a long-term contract extension. The deal is evaluated to $60 million. He accumulated 135 points in 179 career games wiht an impressive 40+/-.

Tarasenko was one of four players to post two hat tricks this season, while he was the only player to record six game-winning goals, six shootout goals and two overtime goals.

That leaves St. Louis near the salary cap, but with a little bit of wiggle room, per General Fanager. Schwartz in particular will likely be expecting a big raise from his current $2.35 million cap hit, assuming he has another strong season after his 63-point 2014-15 campaign. Unlike the Blues playing style during the playoffs, Tarasenko didn’t alter his production. He was the youngest Blues player with a 30-goal season since Brendan Shanahan in 1991-92.

If you haven’t heard about Tarasenko’s skills, you either lived in Bin Laden’s cave for the last couple of years or need to upgrade to National Hockey League Center Ice to watch more Blues games.
