BMW Compact Sedan concept unveiled – IAB Report

Given the good sales figures for entry-level compact luxury sedans like the Mercedes CLA and Audi A3, and reports suggesting that BMW India is looking to push volumes from 2017, the production-spec BMW 1 Series sedan could make its way to India. China is expected to be the largest market for the production version, likely to be called the 1 Series sedan or 2 Series sedan, explaining its presence at this particular show.

The BMW Group has chosen Auto Guangzhou 2015, one of the largest worldwide motor shows in China, to present a very special new development to the global public: the company’s vision of a four-door sedan for the compact segment. It is likely to be based on the UKL platform, making it the first ever FWD BMW sedan. Brown and ivory trim helps enhance the feeling of space.

An 8.8-inch centre screen displays information to the occupants, while the driver has a heads up display to handle vital information. Interior functions are operated via touch-sensitive switches, backlit with “Velocity Tulip” orange lighting.

The rear pillar features BMW’s trademark Hofmeister kink, while the rear wears slimline tail lights with L’shaped LED internals.

The body hunkers over a set of massive 20-inch alloy wheels, taking their inspiration from the alloy wheels fitted to the M4 Coupe.

BMW is touting the importance of rear passenger space with the Compact Sedan Concept and claim two rear passengers will have ample space for the car’s size. “This four-door sedan stands for everything that sets BMW apart”. The reason for this assumption is that as the auto will find its foundations in the UKL platform, like the 2-Series Active Tourer and other models, which are also based on the UKL platform.
