BMW M3, M4 Competition Package – now with 450 hp

BMW has announced a new Competition Package for its M3 and M4 models – taking power from 425bhp to a staggering 444bhp.

The new competition package endows the M3 sedan, M4 Coupe and M4 cabriolet with an added 14kW through unspecified tweaks to BMW M’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine, raising output from a standard 317kW to a new peak of 331kW.

As a result, all cars shave a tenth of a second off their 0-62mph time – and while that may not sound like much, it means the M3 saloon and M4 Coupe can now complete the benchmark sprint in just 4.0 seconds.

You’ll feel more of the difference in the way the auto looks, feels and corners as the CP is squarely aimed at dyed-in-the-wool enthusiasts. Seatbelts with woven-in BMW M stripes cap off an extremely sporty interior ambience.

BMW has also reconfigured the stability control, Active M diff and the car’s selectable driving modes (Comfort, Sport and Sport+) to suit the nature of this beast.

To put those numbers into perspective, all models equipped with the Competition Package are 0.1 second faster to 100 km/h than models without the package.

Want one yet? BMW South Africa expects the first Competition Pack models to reach local showrooms by May.

The wheels for the cars equipped with the Competition Pack are forged alloys measuring 20-inch diameter (nine-inch front and 10-inch rear width).

The M sports exhaust system also get black chrome tailpipes with a more enticing exhaust note. Other cosmetic features include high-gloss Shadow Line trim for the side windows, exterior mirror shells, the BMW grille kidneys, side vents and badge at the rear.

Fuel economy remains unaffected by the hike in reserves, with the enhanced M3 sedan and M4 coupe recording the same combined figures of 8.8L/100km and 8.3L/100km in manual and dual clutch guises as their standard siblings.
