BMW Releases Images Of A Forthcoming Hybrid Supercar

It’s always exciting when one hears of an imminent unveiling of a supercar. To top that if it’s a supercar coming out of the BMW stables the level of interest is raised even further. BMW knows this and to possibly test the waters and create a buzz the company released images of its forthcoming hybrid supercar. The BMW i8 as it has been christened up until now is a car that was long anticipated. The vehicle is all set to make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 10 and will go on sale sometime in 2015.

The vehicle weighs around 1500 kgs and and is 4.7 meters long. BMW is reportedly happy about the fact that despite this vehicle being a sports car with a complex design the weigh distribution between the axels is absolutely even. This in other words means that the vehicle will have great balance and control even at high speeds. Another thing that will give this car a better road grip is its low centre of gravity. Ultra-light materials like carbon fiber; aluminum etc was used to build this car. This vehicle as a result is nearly half the weight of a conventional car and 30% lighter than a vehicle made completely of aluminum.

Under the hood this supercar is equipped with a 1.5 liter petrol engine, with electric motors both in the front and the back. It has 362 hp and 570 Nm of torque. All of it put together will help this baby attain 0-100 km/hr in just 4.5 seconds. The icing on the cake is the fact that the i8 has a fuel economy that for a supercar can be termed nothing short of astounding. In other words, this beast can run for 100 kilometers on just 2.5 liters.

You can switch this vehicle to a mode called Eco Pro, which would allow you to travel as much as 600 kms with your tank filled just once at the start of your journey. The there is the comfort mode which would reduce the 600 kms to 500 kms, which also is extraordinarily impressive. As you must have guessed in both these modes you wouldn’t get the power you expect out of a supercar. To give you that supercar feel there is a Sport Mode. Lastly, here is another amazing piece of info, the batteries that power this amazing vehicle can be charged in just 1.5 hours.
