Importantly, BMW’s M division claims that nothing about the Concept M4 GTS would keep it from being eligible for use on public roads. With the M4 having been on the market for a year now, BMW has pulled the covers off a new concept auto that is the first special M4 model. Then there was the MotoGP M4 safety auto that featured a water-injection system BMW said was destined for production.

The strong performance potential of the turbocharged six-cylinder in-line engine already demands an exceptionally sophisticated thermal management system for the engine and ancillary units. Even the car’s bodywork has been changed in order to cut weight and lower the centre of gravity. “Despite its outstanding track ability, it is still fully road legal”. While it had looked daft, BMW had made the right call as the rear wing had been a big help to powering the auto to great success in the European Touring vehicle series. It’s all about the driver – with a special high-tech racing suit and visor – relaying as much information about the track and any race data.
Headlining the unveiling is the new Concept M4 GTS, a muscly makeover of the still-new M4 Coupe that BMW has dressed in a cool grey finish with contrasting orange highlights – and, of course, a load of aerodynamic and under-the-skin enhancements.
The move sees BMW M Division once again returning to its roots.
It was an eventful evening on the Monterey Peninsula last night as luxury manufacturers debuted new production cars and concepts and vintage cars set record prices on the first day of auctions.
For example, for the powertrain, a main radiator plus additional radiators for the high- and low-temperature circuits, transmission and turbochargers have been added.
At the rear a huge spoiler and carbon-fibre double diffuser combine with a contoured rear apron which draws the eye to the matt gold 21-inch light-alloy wheels with black inlays.

The M4 GTS is expected to enter production next year as a limited-edition model, and it will be sold in the U.S. The organic light-emitting diodes are more efficient when it comes to illumination and with an installation height of just 1.4mm they can allow for more creative scope in their design. It definitely didn’t feel like a fitting tribute to the original 3.0CSL of the early ’70s, one of the prettiest and most celebrated variants of one of the best cars BMW has ever made.
