Former failed Presidential candidate Bob Dole endorsed Bush after last night’s debate in Wisconsin, describing him as the most qualified candidate to run against the Democrats.

Announced on Veterans Day, Dole will also serve as national veterans chairman for the Bush campaign.

He cited Bush’s “conservative reform agenda and forward looking vision” on economic growth, combatting the Islamic State group and veterans’ issues, which he said were better than Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton’s.

“I will do all I can to be helpful to Jeb’s campaign”, Dole added. “Jeb has the proven leadership skills and executive experience needed to fix the problems facing our country…”

Bush thanked Dole for his support and pledged to make fixing the Veterans Administration one of his first priorities if elected president.

Dole does have a long history with the Bush family, but not always on the same side.

A news release notes: Bob Dole and President George H.W. Bush have had a strong relationship over the years, having both served our country in WWII. Dole, a previous presidential candidate himself, was injured while serving in World War II. Dole served in both the House and the Senate, before becoming the Republican Party’s nominee for the White House in 1996 – an election he lost to Bill Clinton.
