Bob Ford: Why Lurie decided he’d hat it with Chip Kelly’s act
“It was more the lack of progress and the trajectory where we were going”, he said. Clearly he feels owners around the league, and particularly Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, should be more willing to adopt a similar approach. Kashner did not agree with Kelly’s coaching decisions.

There was drama in Philadelphia that began with three straight losses to Miami (at home), Tampa Bay (home) and at Detroit on Thanksgiving day.
“Nobody worked harder the last three years”, Lurie said. It was a bold decision to hire him and [we] had certainly some success. “I thought it was good”.
“And for Chip, it was a good way for him to view the marketplace and see what was possible”. The team has a disappointing 6-9 record after Kelly delivered back-to-back 10-6 seasons in 2013 and 2014.
After underachieving in his first season in Philadelphia, DeMarco Murray could benefit from a fresh start. When healthy, Bradford has been the Eagles starting quarterback this season and it has not been what you would have wanted from someone you gave a second round pick for.
With all that to his credit, people may wonder, why have the Eagles fired Chip Kelly?
Kelly is said to have made poor decisions in many cases, and to have failed to do things like choose the right players, trade the right players, or to properly negotiate free agent deals.
Murray said Kelly was reluctant to change his system to better fit his running style. They were 7-12 in Kelly’s last 19 games. Eagles’ Owner/Chairman/CEO Jeffrey Lurie, released a letter (statement) on the team’s website to the fans. “The eagles weren’t going anywhere with him and he proved it”, Kashner said. “In terms of the results?”
The connection between Belichick and Kelly has been well documented, including their teams holding joint practices in the preseason. Just hours after they’d completed their workday, their head coach had been fired. “And I don’t think he utilized that enough or was proactive enough to really connect to the players”.
Offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur will take over as interim head coach for the Eagles’ regular-season finale against the New York Giants this Sunday. Lurie said Roseman will be responsible for “making sure our player personnel department is as good as it gets in the National Football League and be accountable for that”.
The next season would be the beginning of a downward spiral for Kelly and the Eagles.

Belichick was asked in his Thursday press conference if he paid attention to coaching changes this time of year, and he was surprisingly forthcoming, even zeroing in on Chip Kelly. Kelly reportedly tried unsuccessfully to trade up to select Mariota in the draft.
