Bob Iger Joins Chargers and Raiders in NFL Carson Stadium Project

Through a spokeswoman, Schaaf (no relation to the Missouri state senator) said the city would pay for infrastructure improvements that would serve a new stadium, but she plans to make a case to team owners that Oakland is still the best place for the team.

Though Iger will recruit and hire a new president of Carson Holdings to handle the day-to-day duties of the project, he will drive the overall vision for the stadium project, according to CBS Sports.

The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Robert Iger delivers remarks during an event on June 5, 2012 in Washington, DC.

Iger’s appointment is for five years with annual compensation of $1.

The $1.78 billion, 65,000-seat stadium would be built on the site of a former landfill.

Should the Carson project get sufficient votes, Iger would have a window during which he could buy a pre-arranged portion of either the Chargers or Raiders, according to the report.

Iger, one of the most powerful executives in Hollywood, could have the clout to attract major sponsors for the stadium project.

“Should the owners approve the move, Los Angeles will proudly welcome two incredible teams to our community and build a stadium worthy of their fans”, said Iger in a press release, via Pro Football Talk.

If it happens, Iger could purchase a portion of either the Chargers or Raiders for himself. Carson is in the south Los Angeles area, southeast of LAX and West of Disneyland home Anaheim.

Iger has made it known he intends to retire from Disney when his contract expires.

Giving Iger his choice of Chargers or Raiders ownership is an interesting caveat, and my guess is that this was done to keep the Raiders from being able to take Iger on as their own “mystery investor” that they could take with them to Inglewood, as the second team in Stan Kroenke’s stadium. And certainly if you’re going to do two teams it really lends a layer of talent and experience, plus unbelievable know-how to the whole effort. Among the properties they own are Marvel, Pixar, ABC Network, and ESPN – the latter two have long time relationships with the NFL.

Chargers spokesman Mark Fabiani has said the team will file paperwork with the National Football League to relocate to Los Angeles.
