The dead bodies of two infants found near an abandoned parking lot in North Philadelphia have caused confusion among the authorities in the fifth biggest city of the United States.

The babies, a boy and a girl, were found amid trash and debris in a grassy area of an alley, behind a used-car lot.

Police said the bodies were discovered by two boys playing in the park.

“I thought it was baby dolls”, Crawford told the paper. “They both looked like they were about a day old”.

The infants were pronounced dead minutes later by a medical unit and homicide detectives were notified.

Philly.com reported that officials said a 9-year-old boy and his 12-year-old neighbor apparently found the babies on Saturday evening and told their parents. Philadelphia police homicide investigators were called to the scene. “And make sure that these children are properly treated with the appropriate respect”.

Meanwhile, police say they are investigating reports of unknown persons in a black pickup truck dumping trash on the street near where the newborns were located.
