A search warrant was obtained for the property, and Door County sheriff’s investigators were assisted by the State Crime lab in processing the scene. They have not identified the owner of the gun. Whiteside, was vacationing in Ephraim, where his family owns a condominium and boat.

A press conference is scheduled for 1:00 Thursday afternoon.

Dr. Jeffrey Whiteside, 63, was last seen at the Ephraim Yacht Harbor Marina three weeks ago.

Chief Deputy Pat McCarty told Post-Crescent Media that the Whiteside family was cooperating with the sheriff’s department, but on Tuesday, Kathi Whiteside, though her attorney, denied the sheriff’s department’s request to search the Whitesides’ Grand Chute home.

He says investigators aren’t ruling anything out but have a lot of work to do before they can resolve this case.

Whiteside treated patients at Fox Valley Pulmonary Medicine.

McCarty refused to say how Whiteside died but said the public is not in danger. The case has gained national attention.

McCarty said it’s not unusual for a family in such a situation to get an attorney or exercise their right to decline a search.

The Whiteside family issued a statement thanking everyone who participated in the multi-day search.

This has been a hard ordeal for all involved.

“I checked all the hunting shacks and found nothing”.

Whiteside was reported missing by his family on July 1.
