Police searching for the missing youngster boy found a body on a building site.
“While it is early in the investigation, the death is being treated as unexplained and a post-mortem will take place in due course”.
“Our thoughts remain with Conley’s family and friends at this very hard time”, added DI Short.
Conley Thompson was last seen at Locke park in Barnsley where he had gone to play with his friends at around 6pm.
Police said the boy left Locke Park at around 8pm and was supposed to return to his home at Underwood Avenue, but never turned up.
This morning, police officers cordoned off Bank End Road, Worsbrough, with police activity centred around the building site. He loved playing outdoors.
“There was lots of people on Facebook and others going out to look for him, so people were very concerned for him”.
“Apparently he had been seen climbing around in the area near the church yard”.
“He played with all the kids in the area”.
He described Conley as “a bit naughty” and used to play football with him.
The boy’s family were too devastated to speak this morning – while a woman, believed to be his mother, left the street in a auto. “I hate to think what his little mind was going through”, Deborah Fraser told BBC News. It’s just unbelievable.
Conley was last seen on Sunday evening playing with friends a mile away from the site on Bank End Road, Worsbrough.
Derek Mann, a 50-year-old local resident, said: “Kids around here have been playing on the construction site during the summer holidays. The whole community is in shock”.
Peter Taylor, a manager at the firm, said: “Basically we finished there on 16th July, we leave warnings signs up as an extra visual deterrent”.
Police said the body was found at approximately 8.30am. “Please share and spread the word to get him home safe and well”.
He went on: “The construction site, where Conley was sadly discovered by construction workers this morning, was checked by officers during the hours of darkness and found to be securely locked with a large perimeter fence”.
