Last afternoon, their bodies arrived at Mumbai airport at 1.30 pm, and Karishma’s was transferred to Pune by 8 pm. Pooja’s father Uday Bhosale said: “We are completely shattered”.
Kallur’s body, kept in a coffin, reached her residence in Navi Mumbai at 5.51pm. “Some of her friends mentioned that the fire started after some girls lit a candle in their room, while others mentioned a short circuit”.
A relative of Ms Bhosale told reporters in Pune, “We have not received any details from the Indian embassy about how the mishap happened. We could only support her and took an education loan of Rs 18 lakh to see her through”.
Karishma and Pooja’s friends and fellow students shared similar views on Facebook.
The girls were students of fourth year MBBS in Smolensk State Academy Medical university located 400 kms. away from Moscow and were staying in the hostel located on the university campus. The parents are in touch with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the ministry of external affairs and are demanding that a proper probe be initiated in the incident. “It may be due to the negligence of the university hostel admin. On behalf of the Indian Students Association, we demand action and inquiry into this incident”.
