Police told the newspaper someone hit her in the head and put her in the trunk. Her original route appears to have been from Helena to her hometown of Great Falls. Spokane County authorities found her dead in the car’s trunk at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities are planning to release a photograph of a person of interest.

Tragedy has struck our small community in Great Falls. The woman was identified by KFBB as 47-year-old Rita Maze of Great Falls. Deputies found blood inside of the vehicle and out of concern for the victim, immediately forced open the trunk. We as a community will come together in this horrific time for the Maze family. Proceeds will go to helping to defray service expenses for this genuinely attractive soul. Please pray for the Maze family, they need all the support and strength they can get right now.

A spokesman from the Federal Bureau of Investigation has confirmed that the FBI is now involved in the case, which also involves Lewis and Clark County and Spokane County Sheriff’s Departments. Her black Pontiac Grand Prix was found by a license-plate reader in Post Falls, Idaho, and officials found her body in the trunk of the vehicle near Spokane International Airport.

Spokane County Sheriff’s Office confirms they were able to track the woman’s whereabouts by using pings from local cell towers.
