Body recovered from hot pool

Police believe the body discovered in a Rotorua hot pool was a local man but are saying little more about the find.

Police cordon tape has since been taken down.

He said due to the extreme temperature of the pool recovery will be very hard and unsafe.

“Also with the body, doing it in such a way that we can keep the dignity of the person in there”.

The boy was discovered by a tourist in Rotorua who alerted police yesterday afternoon. “So we have an open mind about how this occurred but our focus isn’t on a safety issue at this stage”, Mr Horne said.

A large area of the public park, opposite Rotorua Hospital, was cordoned off yesterday as police officers, detectives and fire crews worked to remove the body from a hot pool in a fenced area.

A Rotorua Daily Post reporter at the scene said police could be seen preparing a stretcher outside a fenced hot pool area.

“It is a grassed area with a number of mud pools”.

Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick said she had no information about the latest death and council wouldn’t be making any decisions on the changes at the park until after the investigation.
