Boeing Deal Means $980 Million Engine Order for CFM International

The two aircraft makers combined have announced orders totaling about $31 billion in the first three days of the Farnborough show. Boeing also bumped up its 20-year future demand outlook over 4% year-over-year, and now expects orders of more than 33,000 jets during the period.

However, Airbus tops the list this year, after landing a $12.6 billion jetliner deal from AirAsia.

In recent years, AirAsia has become the A320 family’s largest customer.

Fernandes said his airline, which now has ordered a total of 575 Airbus jets, saw brisk growth across the region and could have bought even more. As one pillar, TUI aims to operate Europe’s most carbon efficient airlines and reduce the carbon intensity of its operations by a further 10% by 2020.

The A321neo will be operated on the company’s popular routes and at airports with infrastructure constraints.

The incredible capabilities of the Airbus A350-1000 were on display at the Farnborough Air Show with the plane making a near vertical take-off.

“Middle classes in emerging markets will double to 3.5-billion people by 2035”, Airbus says, predicting particularly strong demand in China and India.

“The new aircraft will help us in unlocking new domestic routes while providing a springboard for continued worldwide network expansion in the years to come.” said Go Air CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer.

But it increased its demand forecast for single-aisle airplanes such as its 737 and Airbus’s A320 to 28,140, up five per cent on its estimate previous year. There are firm orders, commitments, memoranda of understanding, letters of intent and various adverbial phrases like “finalized an order” that carry various shades of meaning that only industry insiders understand.

All aircraft order values were given at current list prices.

Airbus made considerable progress during the second day of the show, but rival Boeing managed to do some solid business as well.

For its part, Boeing announced that China’s Donghai Airlines meant to buy 30 jets – comprising 25 medium-haul 737 Max 8s and 5 long-haul 787-9 Dreamliners – together worth more than $4.0 billion.

Boeing added that another unnamed Chinese carrier has signed a commitment for 30 737 jets worth in excess of US$3.0 billion. Boeing also sealed terms on 20 747-8 freighters with Russia’s Volga-Dnepr Group, though the deal isn’t new and some of the planes have already been delivered. The deal includes four aircraft that have already been delivered.

Although these financials are impressive, it should be noted that most, if not all, of these customers likely negotiated significant bulk-rate discounts.

“Asia is very important to Airbus and Boeing”, said Mohshin Aziz, an analyst at Malayan Banking Bhd in Kuala Lumpur.
