“As well as being good news for passengers, it’s great news for jobs in the UK”.

“Yes there is an orders cycle but deliveries have been very smooth”, he said.

The trend is prompting low-priced operators that have already amassed large order backlogs to add even more planes.

Fernandes said his airline, which now has ordered a total of 575 Airbus jets, saw brisk growth across the region and could have bought even more.

Malaysian low-priced airline AirAsia has finalised a deal with Airbus to buy 100 A321neo aircraft for an undisclosed sum.

In recent years, AirAsia has become the A320 family’s largest customer.

To date, over 170 A320s have already been delivered to the airline and are flying with its units in Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines.

“With these aircraft, we will hit 100 million passengers in the not-too-distant future”, Tony Fernandes, AirAsia’s group chief executive, said during the signing ceremony held at the biennial Farnborough International Air Show outside London.

Indian airline Go Air is in talks to buy 72 of Airbus’ A320neo aircraft in a move to expand its network. There are firm orders, commitments, memoranda of understanding, letters of intent and various adverbial phrases like “finalized an order” that carry various shades of meaning that only industry insiders understand.

Virgin Atlantic and Airbus announce agreement on a firm order, valued at $4.4bn, for 12 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.

Go Air chief executive Wolfgang Prock-Schauer said: “The new aircraft will help us in unlocking new domestic routes while providing a springboard for continued worldwide network expansion in the years to come”. Boeing’s European rival Airbus also revised upwards its own 20-year new planes forecast albeit to a slightly lower level than Boeing. David Joyce, CE of aero engines maker GE Aviation, says he does not see any need for further increases in planned airliner production, which Airbus and Boeing are both considering as they strive to meet their order backlogs.

The bulk of deals at Farnborough and the Paris show with which it alternates come on the first two business days, though more announcements are possible today.

Donghai Airlines now has a fleet of 11 Boeing 737-800s serving for more than 10 cities across China.

The purchase, confirmed Wednesday at the Farnborough International Airshow in southern England, is part of Ruili’s strategy to make its base in the Yunnan province the gateway from southwest China to rest of the world. The order is valued at $660 millionat current list prices. Boeing also sealed terms on 20 747-8 freighters with Russia’s Volga-Dnepr Group, though the deal isn’t new and some of the planes have already been delivered.

Ruili Airlines first announced an intent to order the six 787-9 Dreamliners in May at the ceremony for the airline’s two-year anniversary. TUI Group now has three unfilled orders for 787-9s and 70 orders for the 737-MAX. The airline also expanded coverage for its entire 787 Dreamliner fleet.

Virgin Atlantic said the craft will be powered by Rolls-Royce XWB engines and are created to be 30% more fuel and carbon efficient than the aircraft they will replace. For the protection of AP and its licensors, content may not be copied, altered or redistributed in any form.
