Bogut, Barnes land in Dallas

The Dallas Mavericks are on the verge of adding a pair of Golden State Warriors – forward Harrison Barnes and center Andrew Bogut – in the wake of Kevin Durant’s decision, according to league sources.

Bogut was sent via trade to create cap space for the Durant signing, and Barnes has been relinquished by the Warriors after signing a max offer sheet from the Mavericks. Barnes will sign the deal on July 6, and the Warriors will then have three days to decide whether or not to max the offer for Barnes.

Of course, whether the Warriors end up matching or not will depend on whether Kevin Durant decides to switch jerseys or remain with the Thunder. The 24-year-old Barnes averaged 11.7 points and 4.9 rebounds in his fourth season with the Warriors, shooting 38 percent from 3-point range.

Bogut has been with the Warriors for the past four seasons, making the finals with them twice, winning one championship.

If it – whatever “its” happens to be in the National Basketball Association – ever clicks for Barnes, teams will be criticized years from now for now even tanking a shot at signing Barnes.

Dallas Mavericks will be equipped with a 13-man roster that also includes Wesley Matthews, Devin Harris, J.J. Barea, Justin Anderson, Salah Mejri, Dwight Powell, Deron Williams, A.J. Hammons, JaVale McGee and Jeremy Evans.

Bogut appears set to join his good friend and another Warriors casualty of the Durant deal, small forward Harrison Barnes, in Dallas.

“Most of the Mavericks”™ moves are expected to be made official on Thursday.

Barnes had spent his first four NBA seasons in Golden State after being a lottery pick by the club out of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill back in the 2012 NBA Draft. In 53 playoff games with Golden State, he posted 5.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks. A closer comparison from Dallas’ 2015-16 squad would be Chandler Parsons, who had a 20.5 usage rate and is now gone to the Memphis Grizzlies in free agency. Mbah a Moute was perhaps the team’s most pleasant surprise among its newcomers last season, his defensive versatility prompting coach Doc Rivers to slot him as a starter for the bulk of the season.
