Boil water advisory issued for east bank of New Orleans
The advisory is in effect until further notice.

Once again, New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board customers on the east bank are being advised to boil their water. The notice affects only residents in New Orleans, except for those on the Westbank.
S&WB spokesman Robert Jackson said a power surge caused a pressure drop in the system but officials are still investigating the issue.
S&WB and the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) will be testing water samples. The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking water in a bottle.
The health unit says residents in the affected area should only consume bottled water or water brought to a hard boil for one minute. The elderly, infants and young children should take extra precautions with tap water. A sponge bath should be considered to reduce the chance of them swallowing water.
The Sewerage & Water board recommends that residents boil water for at least one minute before use.
The agency, which did not put out an advisory until several hours after pressure dropped to potentially unsafe levels, was criticized by City Council members and residents for its response in that case.

Customers on the west bank of the city are not affected and do not need to boil their water. If you have any questions about boil water advisory, you can call 504-529-2837.
