Fourteen people have been killed as well as the assailant when a suicide bomber dressed as a woman detonated explosives at a market in the Chadian capital, police say.

In late June, two more suicide bombings in N’Djamena killed 11 people including five police officers.

There was no information on casualties after the attack, which started at around 9 p.m. (2000 GMT) on Thursday, the sources said on Friday.

The dreaded terrorist sect, Boko Haram yesterday took over the highway linking Maiduguri and Damaturu, capitals of troubled Borno and Yobe states, the spokesman of youth vigilante group, Barrister Ibrahim Gunda told THISDAY on phone.

Boko Haram’s repeated targeting of markets has led to merchants leading rallies calling for the Nigerian government to act swiftly to eradicate the terrorist group.

The city has come under repeated attack, especially since the inauguration as president on May 29 of Muhammadu Buhari, who has vowed to crush the uprising. The group’s deadly militancy has so far killed at least 15,000 people and left over 1.5 million others homeless.

“Other countries of the sub-region involved in the fight against Boko Haram had advocated this solution to truly fight against the terrorists who infiltrate people”, the source said. Separately, police sources reported a second explosion about 30 kilometres north of I’Djamena that killed one individual.

A four-nation coalition of Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon has reportedly pushed out the militants from captured towns and villages in an operation that began in February.
