This comes barely a day after a suicide attack was prevented at the Sulimanti ward of Maiduguri in Borno state.

The male suicide bomber reportedly disguised as a lunatic and attempted to enter the Secretariat, but due to heavy security checkpoint at the gate, he detonated the Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, strapped on his body killing him and the other five victims including two policemen.

The statements reads: “This afternoon, combined team of Nigeria policemen maintaining security duties at the entrance of Borno State Government Secretariat, (which was known as Musa Usman Secretariat) in Maiduguri intercepted and prevented a male suicide bomber from entering to attack workers based on suspicion”.

The attack was the first time Musa Usman Secretariat would be targeted since the beginning of the Boko Haram insurgency.

No fewer than 20 persons were injured in the explosion.

18 people were also injured in the blast, AFP reports.

Two senior medics at the state specialist hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity told that five bodies, including the two policemen and the bomber, were in the morgue.
