But the region is a target of Islamist militant group Boko Haram from Nigeria. A top police official blamed the attack on Nigerian extremist group Boko Haram. Boko Haram militants arrived in N’gouboua before dawn on February 13, marking the first attack of its kind on Chad. A local market on the island of Koulfoua, in Chad was struck, according to the BBC and AP, injuring at least 90.

The blasts on the island of Loulou Fou in Lake Chad were set off in several areas at a weekly market. The girls were abducted on the night of April 14-15 in the town of Chibok, in northeastern Nigeria, about a two-hour drive from the border with Cameroon.

The deadliest attack on Chad’s side of the lake took place on Oct 10, another triple suicide, which killed 41 people at Baga Sola, according to N’Djamena.

Although no extremist outfit has claimed official responsibility of the attack, the security forces expect it to be an act of dreaded terror outfit Boko Haram.

One of the nine suspected Boko Haram members was said to be found conducting surveillance of a “high-profile” hotel.

Nigeria’s 6-year Islamic uprising has killed 20,000 people and spread to neighboring countries.
