The suspects are: Umara Mai Gyaran Rediyo (Radio Technician), Umaru Mai Nama, (who specialises in cattle rustling and sales), Alifa Makinta (a specialist on stealing foodstuffs) and Balu Jugudum (in charge of stolen jewellery).

The Independent said the officer showed gruesome photos of the victims of Boko Haram’s attacks and their latest weapons.

The troops also killed 27 Boko Haram terrorists during the clearance raid and also recovered a Volkswagen Golf auto, 15 bicycles and various bags of foodstuffs from the insurgents.

“On their part, troops of 3 Battalion also conducted patrol towards Diema, Sigel and Kala in which they had an encounter with Boko Haram terrorists in which the gallant troops killed 8 of them and recovered 2 Dane Guns and 4 assorted batteries”.

Brigadier Donald Bolduc, the commander of the United States Special Operations in Africa, described the Lake Chad Basin region as ground zero in the fight against extremism in Africa.

Soldiers attached to 26 Task Force Brigade in Gwoza, Borno State have intercepted eight suspected Boko Haram terrorists while trying to enter the town.

“Boko Haram is one of the deadliest terrorist groups in the world”.

However, rescue operations have reportedly not been carried out because of fears that any ensuing battle with the insurgents would put the hostages at risk, or incite some form of retaliation against hostages still being held in other areas.

The suspects claimed to be farmers coming from Shiadawey, Takwala and Amdaga Madachi villages.

Last year, the Boko Haram pledged allegiance to IS, also known as ISIS, ISIL and Daesh.
