The statement noted that the arrest of Shuaibu and the core members of his group stemmed the spate of bombings by the extremist sect. In April, the extremist organization kidnapped 276 girls from a secondary school in the state of Borno.
Members of the Islamist terror group Boko Haram allegedly rode in on horseback and began opening fire sporadically on residents of the remote villages of Baanu, Karnuwa and Hambagda.
He added “the number of those killed may be more than [sixty-four] because the corpses were littered across the streets of the village and others ran into the bush with gunshot wounds, ” Kundi said. Of particular note was the arrest on July 8, 2015 in Gombe State of those responsible for the coordination and execution of the suicide attacks in Potiskum, Kano, Zaria and Jos.
“‘The announcement from the secret police, known as the DSS, came just a day after another statement told us a teenager had been picked up inside Abuja airport where he was gathering intelligence for Boko Haram – another disturbing bit of news”.
In June, five states recently targeted by Boko Haram – including Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger, Benin and Chad – launched a regional task force aimed at eradicating the notorious militant group.
His words: “As President Muhammadu Buhari directed me to address you on the abduction of your daughters in April previous year by Boko Haram, the security agencies hurriedly briefed me on another insurgents’ attacks at Badu village, where 56 innocent people were killed, and their houses burnt as their food stuff and livestock were evacuated”.
It was reported by the BBC that self-confessed Boko Haram members were arrested in the south-eastern city of Enugu as well as other parts of central and northern Nigeria.
