Bolt Aims to Break World Record

However, despite being one of wealthiest athletes in the Olympics, Bolt does not make a habit of flaunting his riches. “I have done everything, and have proven myself”, he said, admitting that “a lot of people aren’t happy”.

Bolt had to buy his own after someone affiliated with the Rio Games – he wouldn’t name names – promised they’d grab a TV for the reigning 100- and 200-meter gold medalist didn’t deliver.

“I think it might be a little but hard”, said Bolt, who has never bettered the world record of 19.19sec he set in 2009. I always get nervous.

But Bolt is nearly as much an entertainer as a sprinter. I think we’re weeding out the bad ones. Johnson, working in RIo as a pundit for BBC Sport, thinks a rivalry between himself and Bolt would have seen one of them break the 19-second barrier.

He said: “It’s not been the ideal season but I’m better than past year and got more races in”.

Speaking to the BBC, Ogunlewe said to defeat Usain Bolt he would have to keep a positive mind. “I never try to predict times, I avoid that because you never know”.

Bolt, who said in February he would retire from athletics after the 2017 World Championships, confirmed this would be his last Olympics.

Theres a variety of stuff but I’m not really too keen on going to experiment at this stage in the competition because I don’t know what is what so I just stick to what I know, maybe rice, veg [vegetables] chicken and fish. “I was really unhappy about not competing in trials because I need those runs”.

There is no denying that Bolt is one of the biggest stars of the Rio Olympics, and undoubtedly, one that the embattled sport of athletics is looking to as it rebuilds its reputation from the Russian doping scandal that had threatened to engulf the Games.

“Every time we go out on the track, we’re capable of creating history”, teammate and former world record holder Asafa Powell said. “I think this is the last one for sure”.

Gunning to become the first athlete to win all three titles at three Games on the trot, Bolt execuded confidence and feels he has what it takes to win the events he is participating in.

“I’m going to win the 100-meter”, he told CNN.

“We are here as a Jamaican team and we can’t see anyone else but Jamaica”, said Powell when asked who is the biggest threat to Bolt and Jamaica. “I hope that you win / I hope that you got the gold ring”.

Anything he does in Rio, however, will only add to what is already one of the most illustrious resumes in the sport.
