I’m happy with my execution and hopefully my coach is.

“I definitely feel on track”. The clamour to congratulate him went on for quite some time as he embarked on an extended lap of honour, much to the delight of those who had stayed behind to greet him.

A blistering opening leg from Philip set the tone, with the rest of the quartet following suit to stop the clock at 41.81, nearly three tenths of a second faster than their old mark set at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing a year ago. And he did not disappoint the roaring crowd even on this night.

With dark clouds hanging over the Olympic Games, Usain Bolt is ready to light up Rio 2016.

The newly-laid track at the Olympic Stadium was clearly super quick and, in near-perfect conditions, Great Britain’s women’s 4x100m relay team also made a significant statement of intent ahead of the Olympics by setting a new national record and the fastest time in the world this year. And it was one he passed and more.

Americans LaShawn Merritt and Justin Gatlin top the 200m list this year with 19.74 and 19.75 seconds respectively.

However, Farah, who has also done the double in the last two world championships, said he felt sympathy for the Kenyans, who were recently accused by the ARD German TV channel and the Sunday Times for taking doping products at their training camp.

Bolt, though, is used to defying doubters and delivering when it matters.

Gatlin, 34, who took silver behind Bolt at last year’s world championships in the 100m and 200m, has been one of Bolt’s most consistent rivals in recent years.

Few would bet against him doing so again in Rio.

Muir has always been knocking on the door of Dame Kelly Holmes’ 1500m mark – which had stood at 3:57:90 – but the 23-year-old promptly burst through it with a truly impressive display of front-running.

McPherson, who said she was coming off a tough session a day prior was thrilled with the time and says she is eager to get to Rio to push for a top three position.

“For me I felt it was a joke, I felt it was a disrespect they think I’d back out of a trials”, he said. It’s not just any record. It’s Kelly Holmes’ Olympic gold medal record. It’s great to have.

“I’ve had some hard races recently but hopefully I can iron out those mistakes for Rio”, she told BBC Sport. I’m so happy to run a season’s best and it makes me confident with Rio next. “This is my final Olympics, it’s a big one”.

Asked if she had mixed feelings about not qualifying for the Olympics, the new world record holder said: “Yes. Yes”.

It smashed her season’s best of 13.10 and was her fastest time since the London Games, when she ran 12.54.

The soon-to-be 30 Bolt did what he does the best – winning. Marvin Bracy, who earned a spot on the Rio roster, was fourth for the U.S.at 10.11 seconds. Racing in the 100m hurdles, she snuck in to the final via a photo finish where she was then upstaged by American Kendra Harrison whose time of 12.20 broke a world record that had stood since 1988.
