The gold Bolt is chasing is just one of 22 on offer across a dozen events in Brazil, Friday.
That doesn’t necessarily make Bolt into Pele or Ali, the two most-recognized athletes of the 20th century around the globe for reasons that included their athletic brilliances but extended well beyond.
“I’ve worked hard every Olympics to win three gold medals, I’ve proven to the world I’m the greatest”, he said.
Bolt is the world’s fastest man and has excellent size at 6-5 and 207 pounds.
With nine Olympic gold medals to his name thanks to his stunning exploits at Rio 2016, Usain Bolt is looking forward to a vacation.
“People always ask me if I’m unbeatable, and when it comes to a world championship, personally I think I am unbeatable”.
He is now on par with USA sprinter and long jumper Carl Lewis, who won nine gold medals over four Games, and Finnish long-distance runner PaavoNurmi.
Thompson is also targeting a clean sweep of sprint titles in the women’s 4x100m relay and Jamaica is favorite for gold. “As long as we got the baton round, it was never in doubt”.
The drawback was they were given the worst lane of all, Lane 1, which has the tightest corners. The U.S. women’s basketball team handily beat Spain 101-72 for a sixth straight title; the American women have not lost an Olympic contest since 1992.
Sweden has come through two penalty shoot-outs to upset both United States of America and Brazil but that could be a risky tack against fellow finalists Germany at the Maracana.
Canada were elevated to bronze after their run of 37.64, a national record which gave Andre de Grasse his third medal of the Games after his bronze in the 100m and silver in the 200.
Swede Pia Sundhage masterminded the USA’s golds at the last two Games but left to coach her home nation on the road to Rio.
“We are not satisfied”, she said.
Riding a rollercoaster circuit is what it’s all about in the Olympic BMX competition.
The time was just 19 hundredths of a second slower than the world record set by the U.S.at the London 2012 Games, in which Felix and Bartoletta participated.
The men’s competition is wide open after the three favorites crashed out in crushing quarterfinals.
An epic Olympic journey that started on a balmy Beijing evening when a 21-year-old stunned the world by smashing the 100m world record came to an end after nine finals and nine gold medals in Brazil on Friday night.
The soccer game will feature almost entirely different rosters from the 2014 World Cup that marked a low point for Brazilian soccer (known as futebol here). Whatever happens a new BMX men’s champion will be crowned, Friday.
