Bolt Wins 200m Gold Medal

The Jamaican spinner won his eighth Olympic gold medal during the 200m final, meaning he is on course for an incredible “triple-triple” – winning the 100m, 200m and 4x100m in three consecutive Olympic Games.

In a CNN Olympic Games report after winning his second Rio Olympics gold medal, Bolt said he doesn’t need to prove anything else.

Though Bolt wasn’t in love with his time, he ended up winning without much drama, exploding off the blocks and finishing with a time of 19.78 seconds, almost 0.3 seconds better than Canada’s Andre De Grasse, who finished second. Somewhat surprisingly, America’s LeShawn Merritt had been left behind as the European trio of Christophe Lemaitre, Adam Gemili and Churandy Martina who were separated by just one hundredth of a second from third to fifth.

But the race is likely to be Bolt’s final solo sprint at an Olympic Games before his retirement next year.

“There you go, I am the greatest”, Bolt told reporters.

“I am trying to be one of the greatests”. Be among [Muhammad] Ali and Pelé. “When I got inspired by Michael Johnson, I was eight years old”, said Eaton.

By contrast, Great Britain’s 4x100m women’s relay team of Asha Philip, Desiree Henry, Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita took the bronze medal.

“My legs decided as I came off the corner that wasn’t going to be any faster”.

Bolt has already secured the gold medals both in the 100 and 200-meters.

Also Friday, Shelby Houlihan of Portland’s Bowerman Track Club finished 11th in the women’s 5,000 meters, crossing in 15 minutes, 8.89 seconds.

“So I think we’re in good shape and the sport has been doing better”. “In relays you never knows what happens, so I just wanted to say goodbye”.

Minister Grange said “we may not realise just yet what a privilege it is for us to live in the time of Usain Bolt who continues to set record after record after record”.

A small storm of anticipation had built around the final, arising from De Grasse’s unorthodox challenge of Bolt in their Wednesday semifinal. “If his time is up, I guess a new person has to come in there”, De Grasse said.

“I put so much into that run but lost my form at the end”.
