The club were represented by Trevor Birch and board member Richard Gee at the hearing in London on Monday.
The initial takeover fee is £7.5m, although their may be add ons to the initial investment.
Holdsworth, who is thought to be working alongside accountant Bruce Gordon in the consortium, said: “It is a great day and I’m absolutely honoured to be a part of this club again”.
Holdsworth’s takeover with the Sport Shield Group Consortium prevents the club from entering administration and an automatic 12-point deduction that would effectively seal relegation to League One.
Fans left the court hearing hopeful.
‘I’m told we’re close and that we might limp over the line with it. I think what the club is trying to do today is get a short-term adjournment, just to get the deal done. “We will have to see what happens after that”.
Bolton have already sold off their training ground and vehicle park to raise funds, which gave them more time to find a solution to their financial woes.

Whites supporters saw the club climb from the foot of the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday with a goal from Tameside born striker Zach Clough earning them a 1-1 draw.
