PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Mark Hamilton said the PSNI had made a decision to cancel the event due to a wedding which is due to take place there oat the same time.
Police in Derry announced yesterday that they had postponed a “recruitment familiarisation event” that was to be held at the Waterfoot Hotel tomorrow.
The Strule Arts Centre, the Waterfoot Hotel and Belfast Metropolitan College are now being evacuated. Most of Omagh town centre was evacuated.
Meanwhile, the Police Federation – which represents the majority of officers here, hit out at those responsible.
“Those behind these alerts have simply caused inconvenience to a large number of people who have had to be evacuated from the venues and surrounding areas”.
Ross Hussey, Ulster Unionist MLA for West Tyrone and Policing spokesperson, laid the blame on “republican terrorists”, and said: “The fact that they have chosen these venues smacks of fascism”.
“These actions serve no republican agenda, of that I am certain”.
