The NYPD tweeted Monday morning that authorities were seeking Ahmad Khan Rahami.
Investigators are still working on an answer to that question, but now, a late-night Sunday discovery in Elizabeth, New Jersey has set more nerves on edge. Following that explosion that injured twenty-nine people, a witness discovered a second pressure cooker bomb left on the street outside of her apartment.
Around 12:30 a.m., the robots tried to clip a wire to disarm one bomb and accidentally detonated it, the mayor said. Rahami, a naturalized citizen from Afghanistan, had lived at that address in Elizabeth, which is above a fried chicken restaurant reportedly owned by his father.
There turned out to be five devices. They then called authorities.
A pipe bomb also exploded Saturday in Seaside Park ahead of a charity race.
By Sunday morning, most streets that were closed around Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood has reopened, with the exception of West 23 between Fifth and Eighth Avenues, causing minor commuting delays Monday morning.
There were no reports of injuries to civilians or police.
HollywoodLifers, are you shocked that there was a bomb found in New Jersey?
Amtrak’s Acela and Northeast Regional trains were running on a modified schedule this morning.
New Jersey Transit says Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line trains began rolling at 5:30am Monday. “No Amtrak trains are operating on the Northeast Corridor between NY and Trenton, NJ for the time being.” .
NJTV reported on its Facebook Live stream that the detonation of the first device happened when an Federal Bureau of Investigation robot tried to disable the device while cutting a wire at 1240 a.m. ET.
Elizabeth, a city with a population of 125,000 that is located between Newark N.J. and Staten Island, N.Y.in the NYC metro area, was put on lockdown as police worked to defuse several “improvised explosive devices” found in a garbage can near the city’s main train station.

NJ Transit said commuters should expect residual delays and service changes as the investigation in Elizabeth continues. The men quickly reported the find to police, Democratic Elizabeth Mayor Christian Bollwage said. New York’s emergency management department says that New Jersey-bound Amtrak trains are being held at New York Penn Station. The search was connected to the ongoing terror investigation, a law enforcement source said. Bomb techs from the FBI, Union County, & the New Jersey State Police have arrived on the scene and are now rendering the area safe. A forensic examination of the device and its components will be conducted at the FBI Laboratory at Quantico, Virginia.
