Bomb hoax call delays Kolkata-Guwahati flight

“Some 50-60 passengers were onboard the flight during the call and were immediately evacuated from the plane”. The call was made before the passengers were scheduled to board the flight.

The Kolkata airport authorities received a call early Tuesday morning threatening to blow up Air India’s Kolkata-Guwahati flight.

It was claimed a bomb had been planted on board the Guwahati-bound flight, which was ready for take off.

The plane was immediately taken to the isolation bay and passengers were offloaded as security and bomb squad personnel checked the plane but nothing was found, the officials said. The aircraft was taken to the isolation bay for the objective of investigation.

Reports state that a woman called Air India at 8:20 am and alerted them of a suspected bomb on their 9:00 am flight to Guwahati.

Security in and around the airport has been put on high alert.

Police have traced the caller, a woman who stated she was a resident of Rajarhat in Kolkata.
