A Delta plane bound for Saipan made an emergency landing at Tokyo’s Narita airport on Saturday after smoke in the cabin was reported, but no one was injured, an airport official said. It landed at Nagpur at 9.29 am and 150 passengers were deplaned out of which 123 were from Bhubaneswar.

Nothing suspicious was found on the plane, authorities said. “However, no bomb was found onboard the aircraft”, GoAir said. After the relevant security clearances, the airplane was permitted to depart at noon for the onward flight of the private carrier to Mumbai.

The GoAir Bhubaneswar office informed police.

According to reports, a call was received at ATS Bhubaneshwar and Bagdogra that a bomb has been planted in a suitcase. The incident comes in the wake of a nation-wide alert about possible terror strikes ahead of the Republic Day.
