BOMB THREAT at Wrigley Field following Cubs win over Giants

A Chicago police spokesman declined to offer further details on the threat or who called it in.

The Cubs said in a statement that they received the threat after Sunday’s game and “took swift action to clear the few remaining fans, players, staff and media from the ballpark”.

A protected Chicago Landmark, Wrigley Field is different from many other Major League Baseball stadiums because of its location in a densely populated neighborhood, where it is surrounded by busy bars and restaurants. Media members, the grounds crew and the cleanup crew were told to leave as police with dogs checked out the park, and the Giants left on their team bus.

The Cubs defeated the Giants, 2-0, at home on Sunday, completing a four-game sweep of the defending World Series champions. Those four games are now over, and Chicago was the victor in all of them: suddenly, the Cubs are 3.5 games up on the Giants, who are now closer to the NL West-leading Dodgers than they are Chicago.

Wrigley Field needed to be evacuated by law enforcement after a bomb threat was made to the stadium. That leaves this young Cubs team plenty of time to trend in the other direction -we all know how much things can change in two weeks.

Arrieta said that he planned and practiced to dominate the game against the Giants today. Bullpen-by-committees usually are reserved for teams that are struggling and in need of a spark; but with Maddon’s club, this has hardly been the case.
