Bombay bans 9 companies for revoking, delaying placement offers

When asked about what action would be initiated against the blacklisted companies, an IIT-B spokesperson said that the companies had been barred from participating in the placement process for a year.

For now, all the 31 blacklisted companies announced by AIPC will have to go through intense scrutiny before they are allowed to recruit students after the one-year embargo on them gets over. LeGarde Burnett Group “revoked the offer and the company was found to be fake with no proper office address”, it said.

It is the first time a prestigious institution like the IIT-B has published a list of blacklisted companies for reneging on job offers to its passouts.

Of the nine firms blacklisted by the Mumbai institute, five, including GPSK, Johnson Electric (China), Portea Medical, Peppertap and Cashcare Technologies, were blacklisted for revoking offers.

Another firm Mera Hunar came with a different name and hired students for another start-up, while LexInnova and IndusInsight have been banned for delaying the joining.

The matter had been under review for a couple of months after these companies defaulted on their job offers, and was discussed at a recent national-level conclave of all IITs in the country. All the companies have been banned for one year, implying that they can come back after the placements for the year 2016-17. Based on some background check, we invite them for placements.

“We can not reveal names of all the companies on the list, but individual IITs are revealing names of firms they have made a decision to blacklist”, said a senior AIPC official.

Majority are genuine firms, which visit the IIT-B campus for the final round of interviews. “Our aim is to avoid job offers being revoked or delays in joining date in the next placement season”, said Dipesh Chauhan, placement manager at IIT-B.
