Manhattan was rocked by an explosion on Saturday which injured 29 people – but police believe another bomb was meant to go off in the busy city.
– The FBI has released an image of two men believed to have taken a suitcase holding a bomb that didn’t explode in Manhattan over the weekend.
The FBI is seeking two men seen removing a bomb from a suitcase in NY – in the same hour that another explosive device detonated just a few blocks away.
Police have detained Ahmad Khan Rahami, a 28-year-old naturalised citizen of Afghan descent, who they believe is behind last Saturday’s explosion in NY that injured 29 people. Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, was found outside a bar in Linden, New Jersey on Monday.
The investigation began when a device blew up Saturday morning in Seaside Park, New Jersey, before a charity race to benefit Marines.
Rahami was shot by police and taken to a hospital in Newark, New Jersey, where he was undergoing surgery.
Investigators say Rahami planted two bombs in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood Saturday night.
Mr Bains’s bar is about 5 km from where the New Jersey police had found a backpack containing bombs.
A United States law enforcement official confirmed the elder Rahami had twice met with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, first saying that he was anxious his son was hanging out with people who might have connections to militants, but two weeks later contending his real concern was that the son was associating with criminals.
The assessment of Rahami produced no clear evidence or indications of radicalization, and at one point his father recanted his previous claims, sources said.
He has already been charged with five counts of attempted murder in connection with that shootout.

Authorities haven’t publicly detailed how they believe he’s connected to the bombings. While in Pakistan in July 2011, he married a Pakistani woman. When officers arrived and confronted the man, Rahami pulled a gun and fired.
