Bombing suspect’s father contacted the feds in 2014
Earlier on Monday, New York police had released a photo of Rahami and said they wanted to question him about the explosion Saturday night in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood as well as a blast earlier that day in Seaside Park, N.J.

Ahmad Khan Rahami, 28, was born in Afghanistan but became a naturalised U.S. citizen in 2011.
Rahami should be considered “armed and risky”, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said in one of a series of TV appearances minutes after the release of the photo.
The investigation was still underway and it’s not clear if there were other suspects involved in the bombings.
Rahami is wanted for questioning in this weekend’s bombings in NY and New Jersey.
Police believe that he was also responsible for a backpack full of pipe bombs found in Elizabeth, New Jersey, late Sunday.
A shrapnel-packed pressure-cooker bomb similar to those used in the Boston Marathon attack then exploded on Saturday night in New York’s Chelsea section, wounding 29 people, none seriously.
A suspicious device found in a trashcan near a train station exploded early on Monday as a bomb squad was attempting to disarm it with a robot, officials said.
Rahami underwent surgery and was in “critical but stable” condition, NY police chief James O’Neill said Tuesday.
Rahami, who is suspected in Saturday’s bombings in New York City and Seaside Park, New Jersey, was captured on Monday after a manhunt and shootout.
“The investigation is ongoing, so as we develop more information, we continue to go but I have no indication that there is a cell operating here”, Sweeney Jr. said. A message left with the Federal Bureau of Investigation wasn’t immediately returned.
A childhood friend, Flee Jones, said Rahami had become more religious after returning from a trip to Afghanistan several years ago.
Upon his return to the USA, immigration officials asked about these travels, to which Rahami replied that he was visiting family, satisfying any concerns they may have had at the time.
The father of bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami told New Jersey police that his son was a terrorist in 2014, according to a new report.
City authorities said they had bolstered an already heavy security force with 1,000 more uniformed police officers and National Guard members.
Old-fashioned flip phones were found on the devices in Manhattan and in Seaside Park, law enforcement officials close to the investigation told NBC 4 NY.
Linden Mayor Derek Armstead said that late yesterday morning, the owner of a bar reported someone asleep in his doorway.
A bar owner discovered Rahami sleeping in the outdoor lobby area of his business in Lindon, New Jersey, and alerted police.
Before Rahami’s capture, Mr Cuomo said investigators had no reason to believe there were further threats, but the public should “be on constant guard”. A foot chase ensued, during which Rahami shot at a police vehicle, causing a bullet to graze another office in the face.
When police arrived, one of the officers “tried to rouse him”, Sarnicki said. Neither the police officer who was struck in his vest nor a second officer who was wounded in the head by a fragment of a bullet suffered life-threatening injuries, the statement said.
Peter Bilinskas said he was standing by his desk at his Linden bowling-supply shop when he heard what sounded like gunfire and saw a man walking down the street with a gun in his hand.

Rahami, blood pouring from a wound in his shoulder and splattered on his face, was loaded onto a stretcher and taken away in an ambulance. A foot chase ensued, during which Rahami shot at a police auto, causing a bullet to graze another officer in the face.
