Bono honours his rescuers at New York gig

The four piece has made a string of shout outs – including Paul McCartney and Christy Turlington – and welcomed a handful of stars onto the stage during their eight night residency at the New York City venue.

U2 also covered Lou Reed’s ‘Satellite of Love’, after stating that Reed’s widow, musician Laurie Anderson, was also in the crowd. Bono has appeared at events for the Clinton Foundation, while Springsteen helped induct U2 into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005 and stepped in for Bono at a show last year when the singer was still recovering from a bicycle accident in Central Park. For their encore they brought an old friend on stage, Bruce Springsteen, who joined them for “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” and the Ben E. King hit “Stand By Me”. She is from Denver, but she’s here tonight.

He then handed the microphone to the woman in question to relay their story, to which she responded: “So I have to clarify, it’s Alyssa and I’m from D.C., not Denver. And so is Engine 44, the firefighters that picked me up off the ground”, he said.

It earned her laughs.

U2’s North American tour ends tonight (July 31) with their eighth concert at Madison Square Garden.

“Here’s what occurred: I was operating in Central Park, there was an accident, clearly I needed to cease and assist as a result of I’m not from New York, I’m from Virginia, the place individuals are good”, she stated because the viewers booed as she tried to complete the story.
