Bookies: Bad draw for Man City

Their only previous game against City came in 2012 when the Spanish side won 3-2 at home before drawing 1-1 in Manchester.

The first legs are to be played 26/27 April, with the return legs 3/4 May.

The draw for the semi-finals of this year’s UEFA Champions League has been made, with sole surviving English side Manchester City drawn to face Real Madrid. In stark contrast, Real won the tournament just two years ago when they beat Atletico in the final – who were making their first appearance in the showcase match – while Bayern last won the Champions League in 2012/13 and have reached the semi-finals for the last five seasons and the final in 2011/12 as well as their triumphant season a year later.

Real Madrid have been paired with Manchester City in the Champions League semi-finals, while Bayern Munich will have to deal with Atletico Madrid if they are to make it to the final, Goal.com reports.

Friday’s draw extended Madrid’s run this season of not having to face a former victor of Europe’s top club competition.

City will take confidence from its elimination of Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals, and manager Manuel Pellegrini will be eager to take his team into the final with Pep Guardiola due to replace him at the end of the season.

The first leg is in Madrid on April 27 and the return is in Munich on May 3.

The semi-final ties will be played on Thursday, April 28th and Thursday, May 5th. “It will be very hard, but we will compete to the maximum like we always do”.Zinedine Zidane, the current Real Madrid boss, is anticipating a “big battle” against City but took some positives from the draw.

Not only has that spell seen their lead in the league reduced, but Wednesday also saw Barcelona knocked out of the European Champions League by Atletico Madrid in a game in which their rivals looked comfortable from start to finish.
