Bosa reps fire back at Chargers

Which is unfortunate, because the most recent contract the Chargers put on the table said that he would’ve had playing time in all 16 games this season and beyond.

Joey Bosa, who San Diego selected as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, held out of training camp in hopes of negotiating a better contract. The team has said that its most recent offer to Bosa was its best offer, but that it will be restructured as it is clear to the Chargers that their first-round pick will not play an entire 16-game season this year. The team surely is not strengthening its relationship with [Joey] Bosa by taking this stance and making their position public. Although they didn’t mention a specific amount of money, the Chargers’ statement said Joey was offered a signing bonus payment that’s larger than any National Football League player has received in the last two drafts.

The rhetoric accelerated earlier this month when Cheryl Bosa, Joey’s mother, posted a remark toward the Chargers on Facebook.

As messy as the situation has gotten, it’s always been expected that Joey Bosa would end his holdout and sign with the Chargers prior to the season. If Bosa were to remain unsigned this season, he is permitted only to sign with the Chargers until the first day of the 2017 draft.

On Aug. 24, the team issued a statement breaking down what they offered Joey in their contract. However, following the announcement that Chargers defensive tackle Damion Square will be suspended for the first four games of the season, things are quickly getting worse for the Chargers.

Bosa is the only first-rounder who has not signed.

At this point, all we can do is continue to fight for a fair contract on behalf of our client, as we do for all of our clients.

Bosa’s representatives have also boxed themselves in as well. San Diego went through a similar scenario with now franchise quarterback Philip Rivers back in 2004. Once he produce good numbers the Chargers would have to pay him whatever he asks for. The measure must receive two-thirds of the vote to pass, a number considered impossible to obtain in San Diego.

The Chargers’ actions haven’t won them many supporters. The Chargers have until January 15 to decide on relocation. The suspension does not prevent him from participating in preseason practices or the Chargers’ remaining two preseason games.
