Bosh out of NBA All-Star Game due to calf injury

Bosh is the second Eastern Conference player to drop out due to injury after Chicago’s Jimmy Butler (knee) was replaced earlier in the week by teammate Pau Gasol.

San Antonio Spurs guard Jonathon Simmons (17) looks for an opening past Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh (1) during the first half of an NBA basketball game, Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, in Miami.

Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh pulled out of Sunday’s All-Star Game with a sprained right calf, the team announced on Friday.

“I am honored to be selected to participate in All-Star Weekend festivities and will still be here to support my fellow East All-Stars”, Bosh said in a statement released through the Heat.

But instead Bosh will be unable to play because of a strained calf.

Bosh did not mention the injury in that media day availability, nor in an subsequent brief interview with The Associated Press.

“It’s just a trip”, he said. Bosh will also miss the 3-point contest Saturday at Air Canada Center.

While Bosh’s return to Toronto for the All-Star Game would have been a fun storyline to follow, Horford is a worthy replacement who could have been on the initial roster.

Bosh is averaging 19.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from 3-point range. He departed for the Heat prior to the 2010-11 season.

Citing a nagging calf injury the Miami Heat's Chris Bosh pulled out of Sunday’s game and Saturday’s three-point shooting contest
