Bosh, Wade lead Heat past Pelicans in OT
The Miami Heat and the New Orleans Pelicans were the first NBA Christmas day game and set the tone for a competitive day. They were outrebounded 57-45 – Miami’s Hassan Whiteside had 17 rebounds, including 11 in the first quarter to the Pelicans’ 10 – and though New Orleans forced 18 turnovers, it turned them into only two points.

No one on the Heat looks like they are having more fun this year than Chris Bosh, who seems to enjoy everything a little more after his life-threatening scare last season.
With the game tied, Bosh had the chance to put the Heat ahead but air-balled a wide-open 10-foot shot that he missed horribly.
The Heat have a quick turnaround now as they face the Orlando Magic tomorrow night.
New Orleans forward Anthony Davis had 29 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots on 13-of-29 shooting in his first NBA Christmas game. Since the start of the 2013-14 season, the Pelicans’ top five players – Ryan Anderson, Anthony Davis, Tyreke Evans, Eric Gordon and Jrue Holiday – have missed a total of 280 games and played just 215 minutes together. The Heat have won seven straight games on Christmas.
VIDEO:Dennis Scott and Greg Anthony preview the Pelicans-Heat matchup. In the closing seconds of regulation, Evans was out of position to run a play out of a timeout, which required Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry to call another. The Pelicans are 0-5 in those games.
Kevin Durant scored a game-high 29 points with nine rebounds and seven assists to lead Oklahoma City while Russell Westbrook contributed 26 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the Thunder, who fell to 20-10 with a three-game win streak snapped.
Dwyane Wade was a force to be reckoned with in the first half but his scoring output dropped considerably in the second half – including some ill-advised shot attempts late in the final quarter when the Pelicans were threatening to steal the game.
Allow us to suggest another option: Start watching at noon, and catch one of the league’s greatest young stars in a rare appearance on the national stage. And he’s cleared to play in Saturday’s game against the Rockets, Gentry said, after previously being held out of one game of all but one of the Pelicans’ back-to-backs this season. “He was just telling me, ‘I hope you miss it for the rest of the game'”.
Point guard Goran Dragic made his return after injuring his left hand in the team’s previous game versus the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday.

The Pelicans went cold in the overtime session, however, and the Heat were able to secure the home win, as Wade scored six points in bonus time.
