Two Bosnian soldiers were killed late Wednesday when a gunman opened fire near a barracks in Sarajevo, police said. The bus driver and two passengers were injured by broken glass, a Sarajevo police spokesman said.
It said the killer, Enes Omeragic, who flee the scene went back to his house and committed suicide by blowing himself up.
“A shot fired at a member of the armed forces is a shot at Bosnia-Herzegovina”, said Denis Zvizdic, the Balkan country’s prime minister, after an emergency government meeting.
Further investigation will reveal all the details regarding the perpetrator, his possible accomplices and his motive, he said.
One of the dead soldiers was a Muslim Bosnian and the other was a Bosnian Serb.
The public broadcaster of Bosnia’s Muslim-Croat Federation (FBiH) entity reported that the attacker shouted “Allahu Akbar” as he entered the betting parlor. The security level has been stepped up at military locations throughout the country.
Authorities said that 94 Bosnians have gone to fight in Syria. At least 26 of them have died there, but according to the report, 56 of them have returned home.
