The Bruins’ clash with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday at TD Garden was hard on the eyes and maybe even a little sleep-inducing.

And still neither the Bruins nor the Maple Leafs had been able to score.

Reimer stopped Torey Krug’s slap shot with about 7:20 left and got a few help on the rebound from defenceman Matt Hunwick, who kept the puck from crossing the goal line with his skate.

“I think we had to work really hard to get this one”.

“We can’t be obviously playing good games like we did [against the Wild] and then going backwards again”.

“I think that’s part of the schedule, and I think that we know that both teams are going to be battling again for another win”, Chara said. They collapse a lot. Matthias had multiple breakaways in the game. That game is a completely different game if he doesn’t stop that breakaway. “(The Leafs) play really well.

Peppered with 22 Leafs shots, the 28-year-old Rask once again stonewalled the team that drafted him.

“That’s all about everybody doing their jobs and believing in the system”.

Toronto had won five of six. You know one play decided pretty much the game.

“It’s a great win, wins are always good, and it’s a good feeling, especially when you win the game the way we did, playing strong for 60, staying patient and waiting for our chances”, Chara said.

“I was never shy of taking shots”. I can see why (Babcock) has been riding him. “It’s his advantage. He’s not just a centerman, now he’s a centerman and a winger”. Brad Marchand added an empty-net goal in the final seconds, sending the Bruins to consecutive home wins for the first time this season.

Boston’s victory moved the club above the true meaning of. 500 – with the Bruins boasting a 10-8-1 record through 19 games played – an obvious goal for the club following their 0-3-0 start to the year.

“It’s what we want to do, we want to get on a roll, get above.500, close in on Thanksgiving”, Bruins winger Matt Beleskey said.

It’s a cautious approach to suggesting the Toronto Maple Leafs could be in the mix but, in reality, if the Leafs continue to play well and get solid goaltending then there’s nothing stopping them from moving a little higher in the standings.

The shutout was Rask’s second of the season.

Zdeno Chara scored at 16:17 of the third period and Tuukka Rask held on for his second shutout of the season, leading the Boston Bruins to a 2-0 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night. LW Frank Vatrano is unavailable for the game against the Leafs, still day-to-day with an upper-body injury sustained in Thursday night’s game.

Chara finished Saturday night with the goal and a plus-1 rating in 23:03 of ice time, had seven generated shot attempts, a couple of hits, a blocked shot and a menacing smile for Dion Phaneuf when the two captains almost tangled in the first period.

Moments later, Loui Eriksson in on goal, turned away with a blocker save by James Reimer.
