Mayor Marty Walsh’s administration says the Chipotle near Boston College passed inspection Wednesday and can reopen Thursday. He said the inspection “went very well”, but declined to elaborate. The manager who allowed the sick employee to work has been dismissed, reported the Boston Business Journal. The chain offers paid sick leave to its employees – so why was there an ill food handler working?
Follow-up tests found that almost all the employees are now free of the virus, and those still carrying it are barred from entering the building, Christopher said.
Five people have been reported as falling ill in Kansas, North Dakota and Oklahoma, the CDC said Monday in a statement.
A series of foodborne illness outbreaks, which began in the summer in California and Minnesota, and expanded in October to OR and Washington, have taken a toll on Chipotle’s stock price and the brand’s “Food With Integrity” customer perception.
“None of the ingredients in our restaurants today were present at the time of these illnesses”, Chipotle’s release read.
The latest reports take the number of people sickened by E.coli outbreaks linked to Chipotle to 58 and the states affected to 12. The CDC is also investigating another E.coli outbreak of a different, rare strain that may be linked to Chipotle.

Earlier this month, Chipotle said it would do more high-resolution testing of all fresh produce for potential pathogens, including DNA-based tests of all fresh produce before it is shipped to restaurants, a program that company officials described as far exceeding requirements of state and federal regulatory agencies.
