Boston closer Kimbrel back quickly from knee surgery
Farrell said he would like to give Kimbrel a “soft” outing, but if he was needed in a save situation against the Mariners on Monday, Kimbrel was available.

Craig Kimbrel returned to the club on Monday and was activated from the 15-day disabled list exactly three weeks since having surgery to fix a medial meniscus tear in his left knee. “Haven’t hit a lot of speed bumps, so it’s been great”.
From that point, the Pawtucket staff retired 21 of 23 batters, including the final 10 after Gary Sanchez’s two-out walk, to send the RailRiders to their fifth road loss in the last six games.
Kimbrel was initially given a timetable of three-to-six weeks, with Monday marking exactly three weeks since the surgery. “Ready to get down to the bullpen and watch it from there”.
Joe Kelly was demoted to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for Kimbrel.
Rusney Castillo doubled and singled, scoring two runs as the Pawtucket Red Sox defeated the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 8-7 on Saturday.
“We just really left it up to the knee”, Kimbrel said.

Recently acquired sidearmer Brad Ziegler will join fellow right-handed Junichi Tazawa as the primary setup men in the absence of Koji Uehara, who remains sidelined indefinitely with a strained right pectoral muscle. The promise of likely being able to return after only a few weeks led him to have the procedure rather than trying to manage the pain. They will have to make another roster move Tuesday to accommodate Abad’s arrival.
