Boston Dynamics reveals Santa’s robot reindeer
That changed Tuesday when Boston Dynamics released a video in which Spot – decorated with seasonal flair and reindeer ears – pulls a sleigh. The robot is decked out in holiday finery, sporting festive red metal struts, confetti and reindeer antlers.

Spot, well in fact there are three of them, is a trimmed down electric version of BigDog and was unveiled in February.
Or so Waltham robot maker Boston Dynamics will have you believe.
Back in 2005, the robotics design company unveiled Big Dog, a mechanical pack mule, created in order to assist soldiers by carrying provisions across rugged terrain.
Boston Dynamics lists Spot as a 160-pound four-legged robot that can operate indoors and outdoors.
The robot, which can find its way through its surroundings thanks to LIDAR sensors, can effectively climb stairs, gallop at surprising speeds and mount steep hills, keeping its balance easily.
And while they are a fantastic feat of engineering, they’re maybe not the most welcome sight when pulling Santa’s sleigh.

Altas, a humanoid robot, is also one of Boston Dynamics’ current projects, focusing on balance and dynamics.
