Boston Mayor Defends Officer’s Actions As Police Investigate Arrest Video
Boston Police Lieutenant Michael McCarthy, a department spokesman, said in a telephone interview that the Internal Affairs Division is “looking into” the video clip.

The officer in the video says he is arresting him for disorderly conduct and blocking traffic in the street.
Community leaders met with Boston Police on Wednesday after a video surfaced of an officer placing his hand on the throat of a person who was being arrested. As of Monday, no officers had been disciplined, he said.
“It’s on the base of his neck”, McCarthy said. “There’s no indication that there was any type of force used around his neck”.
City Councilor Ayanna Pressley said there’s culpability on both sides, but added that the teenager who was shouting obscenities at police should never have been arrested.
“Even though it may not be the politest way to speak, it’s protected by the First Amendment”, she said.
Vargas’s brother claims police used excessive for against Vargas.
The officer follows him and puts him in handcuffs while others who had gathered around question the charges and defend the suspect’s free speech rights. “There seems to be no justifiable reason for that officer to place his hands on the young man’s neck”.
“When the young boy starts playing with blank the police and the pigs, he’s playing with fire, and for those of us who live in the black community that’s risky, destructive, and possibly suicidal rhetoric, and we got to keep it real”, Rivers said.
Walsh also commended Boston police for their work to avert a planned attack over the weekend at the World Pokemon Championships at the Hynes Convention Center. “There will be an investigation into the officer to see whether his actions were compliant with our rules and regulations”.

McCarthy, the police spokesman, said the department appreciates the fact that a member of the public shot the video of the incident.
