Boston Red Sox – Detroit Tigers Preview

After two big wins, though, the Sox have caught up in the season series, and now left them one step behind, at least for today.

Steve Pearce broke up a no-hit bid by the Boston Red Sox on an infield single with one out in the seventh inning.

When David Price proceeded to surrender a game-tying homer to the second batter he faced in the bottom of the inning, it seemed like Kim’s big play would have a real chance to haunt the Red Sox.

Regardless, when Hanley Ramirez returns Thursday from a three-day leave to attend to a death in the family in the Dominican Republic, manager John Farrell must keep Betts in the middle of the order.

The Baltimore Orioles have no apparent answer for Boston’s Mookie Betts. That trend continued as the Red Sox picked up their 6th consecutive victory in a weather shortened 8-1 win at Baltimore.

And then the rain came…and washed the game away after a 77-minute delay. The Orioles then tied the game on a two-run single by Matt Wieters and a bases-loaded walk to Adam Jones in the seventh. Betts has more multi-home run games in Camden Yards than anyone one on the Orioles this season.

“We’re just trying to take it day-by-day”, Machado said.

– There’s no doubting how well the Orioles play in front of Camden’s finest with a sparking 39-19 record at home this season.

For the first time in 2016, the Orioles have fallen to third place.

“I mean it’s so close, the separation between the teams”, Davis said. As the Score notes, the Sox asked the Tigers during the offseason to push back the start time of Thursday’s game, but the Tigers declined despite the fact that Major League Baseball approved a time change. The good news is that they’ll do so with a six-game winning streak, in sole possession of the first wild card slot and second place in the AL East thanks only to the Yankees being just completely useless against the Blue Jays. “It was just one of those nights, I guess”, Bundy said.

David Price pitched good enough to get his second win in as many starts. For the first time since the end of May, he has won back-to-back starts, with his only miscue this time around being a solo home run by Baltimore’s Chris Davis. In the third inning, Betts swung at anything sniffing the strike zone that looked flat enough to hit, striking a 93-mph fastball into right field.

Bundy awkwardly toppled off the mound chasing a grounder to the right side and appeared to twist his right ankle.

Cincinnati’s Anthony DeSclafani responded to his first loss of the season by giving up only two runs and no walks in six innings to guide the Reds past Miami 6-3. Betts hit two home runs, driving in all five of Boston’s runs.

Boston starter Eduardo Rodriguez breezed through the first four innings, not allowing a hit, but came out because of left hamstring tightness after two pitches in the fifth.

It’s unclear if Rodriguez will be able to make his next scheduled start on Sunday against the Tigers in Detroit. RHP Steven Wright (right shoulder strain) will come off the DL next Tuesday. The Birds have a chance to regain their footing with a four-game home series against the slumping Houston Astros beginning August 18.

Mookie Betts helped the Red Sox beat the Orioles by hitting his sixth and seventh home runs in Baltimore Tuesday night. He got through the first and second innings easily, but ran into trouble in the third. “We’ve got a game in 13 hours”. On May 31st in Baltimore, he hit three home runs in that game, and followed that performance with two more dingers on June 1st.
